Milton Keynes Lightning is thrilled to announce the return of forward Toms Rutkis for the 2025/26 season, marking his third consecutive year with the club. Rutkis, known for his versatility and speed, has been instrumental in the team’s recent successes, contributing to two trophy wins over the past two seasons.
Born in Riga, Latvia, and raised in the UK, Rutkis brings a wealth of experience from his time in the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), having played for the Cardiff Devils, Coventry Blaze, and Dundee Stars. Toms joined MKL in 2023 and has played over 100 games (including playoffs) for the team. Rutkis has continued to showcase his skills, tallying 36 points in 52 games during the last season with the team.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, Rutkis stated:
“It is a privilege and a choice that I am proud of to rejoin this club for the upcoming season. The support that myself and the team have had is something unlike I’ve experienced before. Having won two trophies in my two years here, it only makes sense to aim for the treble in year three. Can’t wait to be back and hear the crowd again.”
Head Coach Tim Wallace also shared his excitement about Rutkis’s return:
“I’m thrilled to have Toms back with the group for two more years. He’s a versatile player who can take on a shutdown role against opposing top lines, but also has the skill to contribute alongside our offensive players when needed. He’s made great strides on the penalty kill and is someone I trust in key defensive situations. His speed is a major asset, and his ability to win puck battles plays a big part in our success. Over the past few seasons, he’s delivered in some big moments, and I’m excited to see him continue to grow as a player.”
Rutkis’s commitment to MK Lightning underscores the club’s dedication to building a strong, competitive team for the upcoming season. Fans can look forward to seeing him don the number 10 jersey once again as the team strives for continued success on the ice.
Toms will continue to wear the number 10 jersey, which is available from to Own and Loan from 9.30am Monday 28th April 25.
