On the road in Hull who are welcomed back to the league for the first time since the 2019/20 season, AIB MK Lightning came away with a comfortable 0-9 victory against a depleted Seahawks squad, rounding off a miserable weekend for the Hull team. Lightning themselves were without Deivids Sarkanis, Sam Russell, Rio Grinell-Parke and Mack Stewart.

Lightning began brightly, rapidly heading into a lead through Talbot from Sean Norris and Bobby Chamberlain, followed by Chamberlain from Sam Talbot, then Leigh Jamieson was assisted by Tim Wallace and James Griffin to make it 0-3. Norris assisted by Talbot made it 4 nil mid-way through the first period, and the Seahawks called a timeout to try and take stock of what was happening.

Once play resumed, penalties to Seahawks Chilcott (delay of the game) and Lightning’s Zaine McKenzie (holding), cancelled each other out, and there was no further scoring in the period meaning it ended 0-4.

Into the second and it took until 27:21 for the first action when Cam Hamill received 2 for kneeing. Liam Stewart tapped in at the far post on the powerplay at 27:50 to make it 0-5. Chamberlain then went close when he hit the post, before making it count a few moments later with a neat backhand to make it 0-6 at 41:01.

Hamill went to the box again for tripping at 43:58, and it was time for a Seahawks chance shortly after when Bruton and Salem combined to test Hedley, who kept them out with a solid save. The second period ended 0-6.

Into the third, and Streetly was called for interference, and while he was in the box Callum Field poked the puck home from Jamieson to make it 0-7. Hedley stepped up again to make another decent save, before Liam Stewart turned on the style with two goals in quick succession, the second being his sixth goal of the weekend.. Jamieson and Ben Russell assisting.

At 0-9 all that was left was one more penalty for Bruton after he tripped field, with the penalty successfully killed. Jordan Hedley grabbed the shutout for Lightning, and Bobby Chamberlain picked up the Man of the Match award.
