Smith Recycling Milton Keynes Lightning together with the Supporters Club are delighted to announce that this season we will be raising funds for our chosen charity, Milton Keynes Hospital Charity’s Cancer Centre Appeal. The appeal is raising funds for a new Cancer Centre which will allow the hospital to provide more complex cancer treatments for their patients here in Milton Keynes.
On Saturday 19th October for the home game against Bracknell Bees, the team will wear specially designed jerseys in unique colours for one game only which will highlight the appeal. These jerseys will only be available through the own and loan scheme and will cost £125 each. There will also be a specially designed range of merchandise to compliment the jerseys and to help promote the appeal.
In the build up to the night there will be more fundraising activities to help raise funds and to help highlight the appeal. All profits raised from the sale of the shirts, merchandise and other fundraising activities will be given 100% to the Cancer Centre Appeal.
Jenny Howells, Senior Fundraiser at Milton Keynes Hospital Charity said: “I am really pleased that MK Lightning have chosen to support our Cancer Centre Appeal by wearing specially designed playing shirts at an upcoming home game. We are currently raising money for a new cancer centre at Milton Keynes University Hospital which is going to transform local cancer care, and so this is a fantastic way to increase awareness of the appeal and help raise much needed funds. Last year, more than 4,000 people were told the devastating news they had cancer and so we are extremely grateful to the MK Lightning team for getting behind us. I can’t wait to see our logo on their clothing and other merchandise, and we’ll be in the crowd cheering the team on for a win!”
Claire Eason-Bassett, CEO of Milton Keynes Lightning said “We are thrilled to be focusing our charity fundraiser this year around such an important cause which is located just a couple of miles from our home arena. It’s often said that cancer touches all of us at some point in our lives, whether it’s ourselves or to our loved ones. We are delighted that the club and the Supporters Club are working together to give 100% of the profits of this fundraiser directly to the charity.”
Dave Bunyan, Chairman of the MKLSC commented “We the Supporters Club are absolutely delighted and excited to be raising funds and awareness for such a great cause. After speaking with the Charity initially it became apparent that they were just as thrilled and excited as us.”
“Over the years we have raised funds and awareness for some great causes such as Breast Cancer Care, Willen Hospice, Help for Heroes, Prostate Cancer amongst many others. This season we really hope MKL fans can support and help us to raise as much funds as possible for the Milton Keynes Hospital Charity’s Cancer Centre Appeal. “
The team on the ice will be wearing unique shirts which reflect the charity’s colours and will also feature the highly popular Own & Loan scheme. There will be the chance to win the blood shirt on Ollie’s grid, and we also have two very exclusive shirts for grabs on the shirt off of his back, namely #12 CLIFFORD and #61 BOWERS.
Own & Loan jerseys will be available from Sunday October 6th at 10.30am. To Own & Loan your favourite player’s shirt please email dave@b2promodesign.com at that time.
MK Lightning and the Supporters Club intend to jointly present a cheque to the Charity at the game on the 19th of October.
