Today marks a huge new chapter in MK Lightning history: our home Elite League debut, against the Belfast Giants (doors 4.30pm, face off 5.30pm).
Head Coach Pete Russell has again secured a top class player as injury cover this week with the addition of the vastly experienced Ashley Tait, to bolster the side while Francis Verreault-Paul and Jon Boxill continue their recuperations.
The team faced reigning EIHL league and cup champions Cardiff Devils at Ice Arena Wales last night, and despite posting a loss showed that they are not in the league to make up the numbers, putting in a determined and physical performance. Lightning were the first to score with a Paul Phillips shot, supplied by Ashley Tait and Alex Forbes. Christian Isackson got MKL’s second goal, a powerplay effort supplied by Ben Foster and Kevin King in the second period. However two goals in each of the first two periods and an empty net goal two seconds from the final buzzer saw the win go to the hosts.
Tonight we launch our brand new monthly magazine, Lightning Strike – this month’s edition is packed with features including:
- exclusive interviews with James Griffin and Kevin King
- a look at what changes supporters can expect from the move from EPL to EIHL
- a travel guide for supporters planning on going to any of this month’s road games
- …and much, much more – none of it available anywhere else!

We ask all supporters to arrive with plenty of time to go through the turnstiles, locate and take your seat before the game starts. If you arrive once the game is in progress you will not be allowed to take your seat until a break in play, so as not to interrupt the view for fans already seated.
