After 20 years of involvement with MK Lightning, we are very sad to say that Lightning TV supremo Chris ‘Dicko’ Dickens will be hanging up his microphone at the end of the current season.

Chris has made a name for himself over the years with an endless number of Lightning media and matchnight contributions, from commentary, matchnight announcing, interviews, producing Christmas videos (and outtakes!) and hosting testimonial evenings for some of the greats.

Most recently his role has been as anchor commentator and overall leader of Lightning TV, building a team and producing what is widely acknowledged as one of the best streams in the league.  Indeed Chris set the bar high, continuing the high quality production and experience which was also seen as leading during the Elite League years.

Chris brings the perfect balance of energy and knowledge to his commentary.  His preparation is second-to-none, and he backs this up with an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of the players on the ice, their previous teams and their current form.  He provides great insight play-by-play, and captures the excitement brilliantly with his trademark ‘It’s a Goal!’ whenever Lightning score.  Most critically, Chris’ impartiality, fairness and integrity is the hallmark of his media work and this is recognised by fans of Lightning and across the league.

MKL’s Tom Roberts had this to say about Chris stepping down: “Chris is one of the most authoritative voices in British hockey, bringing such smooth, calm, balanced and impartial delivery to our Live Stream.  He also brings effortless confidence to post-match interviews, putting the subject at ease and allowing them to share how they are really feeling, win or lose!  We are really sad to be losing Chris from the stream and his general presence around the club, but we understand that he wants to have a few more Saturday nights free to relax and enjoy hockey and other things.  We hope to tempt him back onto the gantry from time to time, so fingers crossed he’ll join us in the future.  On behalf of everyone involved with MK Lightning, past and present, we’d like to say a very big thank you to Chris for all he’s done over the years”.

Thank you very much Chris.  You’ll be missed by everyone, and we look forward to seeing you around over the coming years.  All the best from all of us.
