The Smith Recycling Milton Keynes Lightning are delighted to announce the arrival of highly-rated British prospect Cole Shudra for the 2018-19 season – thanks to an arrangement with the Sheffield Steelers.
Two-way forward Cole, 19, has signed a two season contract with the Steelers, but will spend the first season as a full time Lightning player.
Born in Rotherham, Cole – son of former Edmonton Oiler and British hockey legend Ron Shudra – has progressed through the Sheffield hockey system, making his senior debut with the Steelers in the 2016-17 season. He was part of the Sheffield team which won the EIHL play off trophy as well as dressing for one of the side’s Champions’ Hockey League fixtures.
His abilities also earned him international selection for Great Britain, at both U18 and U20 levels. At the recent World Junior Championships, Cole ended the tournament as second highest points scorer for the U20 team, thanks to four goals and five assists.
MKL Head Coach Doug McKay commented:
“Firstly my thanks must go to the Steelers organisation for allowing Cole to come to us for next season. Cole is an exciting young British prospect and it’ll be good to have him in our colours, developing and learning with the Lightning.
“He’s had a first class start to his career in his first full season with the Steelers – I will be aiming to continue his development by using his natural talents in the best way possible.”
