Milton Keynes Lightning is thrilled to announce the return of Joe Wilson for the 2024/25 season as Assistant Coach. With a rich background in both playing and coaching, Wilson has become a cornerstone of MKL’s coaching staff over the past two years, bringing dedication, hard work, and a deep passion for the game.

Wilson began his coaching career with the Peterborough Phantoms NIHL2 before a successful stint with the Chelmsford Chieftains before joining MKL in September 2022.

“I’m really excited to be back for my third season with the team. Coming back to MK was a really easy decision for me. I love everything about the club, from the laughs with Tom, Vicki, and JP during the week to the bus journeys with Andy & Liam. It’s like having a big family and makes it really easy to come to work every day,” said Wilson. “I enjoy working alongside Tim. We both have similar personalities, we bounce off each other well, and could literally talk hockey and life together for hours. Some weeks I think I speak more to him than my wife 🫣.”

Head Coach Tim Wallace added, “Joe is a pleasure to be around with an incredible work ethic and desire to become a great coach. Joe will do whatever it takes for us to be successful, and I am thankful to have him on our staff.”

Last season’s cup win was a highlight, but Wilson and the team are determined to achieve even more. “Last season and winning the cup was a lot of fun, but we know we should have done better and have a lot more work to do. Together we have built a team for the season that we are hoping can bring more trophies back to a noisy MK ice rink,” Wilson commented.

Beyond his role with MKL, Wilson is dedicated to junior development, coaching at the Clarke and Co hockey camps run by former MK Kings star David Clark. His commitment to nurturing young talent aligns perfectly with MK Lightning’s vision for the future.

Welcome back Joe!
