The latest addition to the Smith Recycling Milton Keynes Lightning roster for 2018-19 is former NHL winger Tim Wallace. The 33 year old, 6’ 1” native of Anchorage, Alaska not only brings the experience gained in a season with the NHL Tampa Bay Lightning, but also from time with Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Islanders and Carolina Hurricanes. In total, Wallace has dressed for over 100 fixtures in the NHL and more than 380 in the AHL.

He has represented his country at U18 level and played for four seasons in the NCAA representing University of Notre Dame, where he set a school record playing in all 153 available games whilst he was there.

Tim signed for Pittsburgh Penguins in autumn 2006, dividing his time between Pittsburgh, their AHL affiliate team Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins, and Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL. His NHL debut with the Penguins came in December 2008 against New Jersey Devils.

In 2011 came a move to the New York Islanders on a one year, two-way contract with the AHL Bridgeport Sound Tigers – later transferring to the Tampa Bay Lightning under the NHL/AHL ‘waivers’ system, where he saw out the rest of the season. The 2012 season saw another one year, two-way contract, this time between the NHL Carolina Hurricanes and the AHL Charlotte Checkers.

Two seasons in Sweden and one in Germany followed before Tim returned to his native Alaska for the 2016 campaign, returning to Europe and the UK’s Elite League last season with the Sheffield Steelers. There, Paul Thompson described him as a “big, power forward…who plays hard, finishes his hits, goes to the net and has a big shot.”

MK Lightning Head Coach Doug McKay is equally as upbeat:

“Tim is a hardworking, very experienced player who’s very knowledgeable about the game and has great leadership qualities. I’m confident he’ll have a very positive impact on Lightning’s younger players and will help them to develop. He’s going to be a great addition to our squad and I know will fit right into the club’s culture. I’m very excited about seeing him play for us!”

Tim Wallace said,

“I really enjoyed talking with Doug about the coming season. He has some great ideas and philosophies for this year and for the future, too. I’m really looking forward to be playing for MK next season and to meeting everyone, I’ve heard that the fans are great there so I’ll do everything I can to help the team have a successful season.”
