We’re truly delighted to share with you our first signing news for the 2020/21 season. Hotshot forward Liam Stewart has put pen to paper for the club for next season and we couldn’t be happier.
25-year-old Liam has had an extraordinary impact on and off the ice for Smith Recycling Milton Keynes Lightning since his arrival. He has scored 28 goals and 40 points in 27 games and has been a catalyst for the club’s development from his very first game. Not only that, we love his personality and sense of humour off the ice, whether it’s the role he plays in the locker room or his adoption of block 7 as his fan club he’s a delight to have around and we’re thrilled he will be staying with us.
Liam gave us his thoughts on his contract extension, paying high praise to the spirit and organisation of the club, and the passion of its fans saying “Obviously I’m super excited to be coming back to MK for another year. It’s been an amazing time for me here so far so I thought it was the obvious choice. Everyone from the fans, staff and especially the boys in the locker room have been amazing and I think that plays a big part in my decision!”
One person who is particularly happy with this news is MKL Head Coach Lewis Clifford who said “Obviously I am delighted to secure Stewy as our first signing for next season. I don’t think I need to spell out to anyone what his contribution on the ice has been but off the ice, he is a pleasure to have around, easy to work with, he adds a lot of humour to the group and keeps things light. When the puck drops he is a true competitor and a player who wants to win every single night.”
As Cliff builds out the team for the future, it was clear that he has full faith in the club’s leadership and supporters and their collective contribution to making MKL a destination of choice for players. He put this into words: “Stewy agreeing to come back is a testament not only to what we are building on the ice but also the support we receive from our amazing fans and the way the club is run off the ice. I want to thank everyone involved behind the scenes for supporting me in making this a place where players want to play.”
So we’re happy, the fans will be happy, Cliff is happy. We’ll leave the final words to Liam himself who summed it up by saying “Overall DISCO is happy to be back and to be part of the MK army!”
