Since the announcement that the Smith Recycling MK Lightning picked Nottingham Panthers as our Challenge Cup quarter final opposition, interest in the dates for the fixtures has been huge – and now we can reveal the all-important date for your diary!
Starting this season, the top three seeds after the group stages are allowed to choose their opposition for the quarter final stages – with the Lightning opting for the legendary Panthers organisation.
The first leg will be held at the Planet Ice MK Arena on Friday 22 December, face off at 7.00pm. Get your Christmas break off to a truly barnstorming start at what we know will be a match not to be missed!
Lightning co-owner Graham Moody – who represented the club at Tuesday’s EIHL meeting where the selections were made – commented:
“It’ll be amazing if we can fill the Arena on the Friday before Christmas and give our fans a night to remember. For us, Nottingham was the obvious choice, because it was such an amazing atmosphere when they played in MK a few weeks ago.
“It’s an unpredictable league this season – in some ways Lightning have surpassed many people’s expectations simply by getting this far in our first season, but we think we are where we deserve to be, as the result of hard work. We aren’t afraid of any team in the league and we’re looking forward to the next stage already!”
