Air the Bear
Here’s an update on this season’s Air the Bear. We had planned to run this on 11th December, but it came to light that we would most likely need to quarantine the bears before they could be accepted by the hospital for donation (we learned this after Jake Peill’s fantastic Act of Kindness collection). There was then not enough time to bring it forward to the 4th December game to meet the Christmas deadline. We are not sure how other teams are doing their version and whether the same rules apply.
Our plan is to Air the Bear at what is traditionally one of our busiest games – the game on the 27th December. This will give us enough time to get all the relevant processes in place and make sure everything is safe.
For that game, we’d love you to bring a bear and throw it when MKL score their first goal. Here’s the details:
All bears MUST be brand new with tags
Bears to be put in a carrier bag / clear plastic bag and tied (cable ties are handy for this)
At the first goal, people throw the bag with the bear in it onto the ice
Supporting skaters will then collect the bears wearing gloves and place in plastic sacks, which will be stored for 72 hours before they are available to pass onto MK Hospital children’s ward
We hope this is all good, and sorry for the slightly delayed date this year
Christmas Jerseys
As you might be aware, our jersey supplier has been suffering with some Covid related disruptions in its factory this year. We have therefore taken the decision, together with the Supporters Club, to prioritise the production of replica jersey orders, and to not have a Christmas jersey this year. We realise that this will be a disappointment to some, and we’re sorry that we cannot have one this year, as the initial design was great. We’ll be looking to do some different special jerseys in the new year.
Thank you, and Let’s Go Lightning!
