In an unprecedented show of skill and talent, seven standout players from the Milton Keynes Lightning have been selected for the esteemed Great Britain Under 20s team, set to compete in the upcoming IIHF World U20’s Division 2A Championships. The tournament, a pivotal event in the junior ice hockey calendar, will take place from December 5th to 17th, 2023, in Dumfries.
The selected players, who have demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication, are as follows:
1. Ben Brown (#93) – A dynamic presence on the ice, Brown’s career has been marked by remarkable defensive skills and a knack for timely offense, traits that have made him an invaluable asset to the MKL team. This selection marks his debut for the GB U20s, a testament to his hard work and growth as a player.
2. Carter Hamill (#24) – Known for his agility and physicaliy, Carter has been a force to reckon with this season. His consistent performance has earned him a well-deserved spot on the national team, adding another feather to his already impressive cap.
3. Milique Martelly (#33) – With a flair for making the impossible plays possible, Martelly’s selection comes as no surprise. His versatility on the ic, skating skills and ability to read the game make him a key player for the upcoming championships.
4. Mack Stewart (#16) – Mack has made a name for himself with his fierce playing style and ability to contribute in high-pressure situations. His selection is a continuation of his career’s upward trajectory and speaks volumes about his potential.
5. Daniel Norton (#29) – Norton is a super calm and composed goaltender who is cool and collected whatever the situation. His selection to the GB U20s is a first, marking a significant milestone.
Additionally, two players have been honoured as reserves, ready to step in and contribute at a moment’s notice:
1. Callum Field (#11) – A player known for his goalscoring touch and this season bringing a new dimension of physicality, Field’s role as a reserve is crucial, providing depth and reliability to the team’s roster.
2. Cameron Hamill (#77) – Rounding out the selections is Cameron Hamill, a player whose passion and high intensity compete level have marked him as a rising star in the sport. He is playing a key role for MKL this year and we are delighted that he has been recognised by the national programme.
These athletes will assemble for a team camp on Tuesday, December 5th, immediately prior to the World Championships, and will return to their club duties on December 18th.
