Tonight’s match sponsor: Leap

For the first time this season, an MK Lightning fixture has a game sponsor – Saturday’s fixture against the Guildford Flames will be sponsored by Leap.

Leap is the brand name of the Bucks & MK Sport and Activity Partnership, a not-for-profit organisation, and one of 45 County Sports Partnerships nationwide, that form a key element of the delivery system for sport across England. The imageorganisation aims to enable 50,000 people to get more active for life across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes by 2018 by taking part, coaching, leading or volunteering in sport and activity.

In the 2014-15 season, the Milton Keynes Ice Hockey Academy was able to offer free ‘learn to play’ courses as a result of funding from LEAP as part of the Sport England Sportivate programme.

Nick Poole, General Manager of MK Lightning, commented: “Through their involvement with our Academy, the Lightning and Planet Ice and all our community outreach programmes, Leap has been instrumental in supporting ice hockey and ice skating in Milton Keynes, so we are thrilled to have them as our guests and as our match sponsors.

“Through the Leap ‘Sportivate’ programmes we’ve been able to create a girls’ under 16 team within the MK Storm Junior Ice Hockey Club – as well as helping to swell the number of people taking part in both boys’ and mens’s recreational hockey and the MK Falcons ladies team. All of that contributes to the long-term future of the sport in Milton Keynes, so we are very grateful to Leap for their involvement”.

Mark Ormerod, Director of Leap, said he was delighted that the partnership had already been fruitful, commenting: “We’re happy to be sponsoring the MK Lightning match against Guildford Flames. Leap aims to get more people active for life and through our partnership with the clubs and Planet Ice, we’ve introduced new players to ice hockey by funding beginners’ sessions. We’d welcome other organisations across Milton Keynes to get in touch with us and see how we can work together to provide sport and activity opportunities.”
