Lightning sign Long as third netminder

The Smith Recycling Milton Keynes Lightning have added young British backstopper Adam Long as a third net minder for the team on a two-way contract with the NIHL Peterborough Phantoms.

Adam will be training with Lightning during the week, and the experience gained with MKL’s Elite level players will add to his overall game and help him become a top British goalie.

The 21 year old Cheshire-born stopper has proven himself over the past two seasons to have improved significantly under the training of Janis Auzins, and will be one of three netminders for the Phantoms in the coming season.

MK Lightning Head Coach, Pete Russell is fully supportive of the development in the UK, commenting: “We are delighted to welcome Adam Long into the Milton Keynes Lightning organisation. Over the past couple of seasons Adam has worked hard and really developed as a goalie. He has real good size, stays square and is calm in the net.

“With us already having talented young British goalie Jordan Hedley in our group, adding Adam really does give us two of the best young British goalies prospects in the UK. Having them training at the very top level each day can only enhance their game further.

“With Glen Billing and Edward Knaggs already working within this partnership structure, this further move only strengthens our relationship with the Peterborough Phantoms organisation.”
