Lightning add second Princeton graduate Pompi

“An exceptional skater with great movement, hungry to take the next step” – that’s the assessment of the Head Coach of the Smith Recycling MK Lightning, Pete Russell, on the team’s most recent signing – US born defenceman Quin Pompi.

Quin, 22, hails from Springfield, Philadelphia and is the second NCAA-experienced player to bolster the Lightning roster for the season ahead.  Like the recently announced Ben Foster, Quin is a graduate of Princeton University Athletics; in his final season there he led the team in the tally of blocked shots with 53, and set up the game-winning goal against University of Massachusetts.

He was one of seven players honoured by the University in April for their dedication to the team, after they won their first playoff series since 2009, to advance to the quarterfinals.

Coach Russell spoke warmly of the club’s most recent signing, commenting: “I’m delighted to add young talented NCAA Defenceman Quin Pompi to our line-up.

“Pompi has good size, is an exceptional skater and keeps the game very simple and fast. His movement was great when I watched him and this really sold me on him.

“He moves well both with and without the puck. He makes good heads-up plays and is very good in 1-on-1 situations. He led his team in blocked shots last year and has strong compete levels.

“All the feedback I received was positive and about Quin, both on and off the ice. He is young and hungry to take the next step in his career after 4 years of NCAA and to build a professional career. We will do all we can at the Lightning to work with him on and off the ice, to enable him to make this transition. He’s another solid addition to the depth in our growing roster and we are delighted to welcome him!”

Speaking about this next exciting step in his career, Quin said: “I’m incredibly excited to join the MK Lightning for their inaugural season in the Elite League. I’ve heard that the club’s fan base is truly something special and I’ll be eager to play in front of them in only a few weeks time. Also, I want to thank the club’s management and Coach Russell for affording me the opportunity to begin my professional career with the organization. Lets go Lightning!”
