Four second period goals sent Lightning on their way to victory at Peterborough.
Coach Peter Russell rang the changes for the return clash – going with four forward lines by switching James Griffin from defence to attack.
Griffin was involved when the first penalties were called by referee Roman Szucs – he received two minutes for slashing while his opposite number Sam Towner was sin binned for elbows.
Leigh Jamieson had an early attempt on goal which was blocked en route to target before Wehebe Darge saw his shot denied by Odrobny’s pads. A minute later Phantoms’ goalie Janis Auzins was called into action to deal with Lewis Hook’s effort.
Phantoms could find no way through when Hook went for slashing shortly after. Back at even strength Milan Baranyk was unable to get the better of Auzins.
It was much the same for the remainder of the period with neither side able to find the net.
Tom Stubley quickly sought to get Phantoms back in the game when he tested Odrobny without success. And it was the goalie who got in the way of a Tom Norton shot while Phantoms were on the powerplay with Frankie Bakrlik serving time for slashing.
Lightning soon began to tighten their grip on the game when Adam Carr supplied Tom Carlon for the second goal on 27mins 43secs.
Phantoms had hardly any time to recover before two goals became three – this time Hook was the provider for Sam Jones to beat Auzins at 29mins 52secs, leading to an immediate time out by the home side.
It wasn’t long though before the fourth goal came – despite Lightning being short-handed with Jordan Cownie off the ice for slashing. The marker came from Antti Hölli who registered unassisted on 37mins 36secs.
Phantoms switched Auzins for back up netminder Adam Long at the start of the final session.
It did serve to shore up the defensive end for the home outfit but up front Odrobny was equal to all fired at him – Scott Robson and Towner finding that to their cost.
With 1min 1secs left Baranyk set up Carlon to complete Lightning’s tally and a highly satisfactory 5-0 victory.
