Milton Keynes Lightning The Official Web Site – Milton Keynes Lightning

EPL Preview: 18-19 March

We’re finally here – not just the EPL Cup Final but also the last weekend of English Premier League action this season!

Saturday sees a game that many fans around the EPL will be keeping a weather eye on, the decisive second leg of the EPL Cup Final  between Lightning and Peterborough Phantoms – the one trophy that has eluded the Lightning for the 15 years of our EPL tenure.  The lights go down at 7pm at Planet Ice Milton Keynes and with 48 hours still to go, there were fewer than 50 tickets remaining! Read our full preview here.

Elsewhere, there are still positions to be fought for with the gap between third and fourth places down to a single point, then the teams in fifth and sixth places both on 47 points. For the group stages of the play offs, Group A will comprise sides finishing 1st (Telford), 4th, 5th and 8th (Sheffield). Group B therefore is the teams finishing 2nd (MKL), 3rd, 6th and 7th (Hull) in the EPIHL league table.

Basingstoke – in 4th spot are just a single point behind Peterborough so when they make the short hop to Swindon on Saturday they will have nothing less than victory in their sights even though they have a game in hand on the Wiltshire side.  Victory for the Wildcats though would enable them to leapfrog Guildford Flames.  Paul Dixon’s Flames host the Sheffield Steeldogs who have won just 11 games all season. Seventh-placed Hull Pirates make the long journey south to face anchor team Bracknell at The Hive, with both teams unable to move from their current league position.

Lightning return to league action on Sunday with their final ever EPL fixture as we travel to face Telford Tigers. Fellow Cup Finalists Peterborough Phantoms also return to league action hosting the Flames at Bretton.  Whilst the Phantoms can’t move up to 2nd spot they can, however, be overtaken by the Bison.  Doug Sheppard’s Bison play the reverse leg of Saturday’s away game in Swindon.  Hull Pirates host Sheffield Steeldogs with neither side able to move from their current position.
