Tim Talks: Lightning need confident start against Belfast

Lightning’s Player-Coach Tim Wallace has reiterated that the team will need to score some ‘ugly’ goals to get a result against the Belfast Giants this weekend (Planet Ice MK Arena, 5.15pm Sunday 27 Jan).

When the Smith Recycling-backed Lightning face Giants on Sunday afternoon, it will be the final visit this season of Adam Keefe’s team.

The Giants continue to chase Cardiff Devils in pursuit of the League title but Wallace refuses to give up hope of getting something out of Sunday’s match-up.  A high energy performance from the team on Thursday saw them push Glasgow Clan hard, and a shots count of 33-30 in MKL’s favour gives a taste of how evenly-matched the two sides were.

Speaking to Lightning TV after Thursday’s game, Wallace said his side needed to get into the dirty areas and score ugly goals to grind out results in the final part of the season - a point he returned to, looking ahead to Sunday’s game.

“We need to have a great start on Sunday and gain some confidence early on,” said Tim. “We need to play a simple game and get some dirty goals in front of their net.

“They have a great goalie and play a hard, North American-style game.  But if we stick to our game and establish shots with traffic in front, I like our chances.”

The doors open at Planet Ice MK on Sunday at 4.30pm, and the puck drops at 5.15pm.  Tickets are on sale right through to the start of the game from mk-lightning.co.uk/tickets, by calling 01908 540020 or simply buy in person on the door.
