Wallace: It’s Good To Be Back!

Lightning Player-Coach Tim Wallace says the team know a win against Coventry Blaze is vital on Saturday as the team aim to pick up more points in pursuit of a play-off place, following Thursday’s road win in Dundee.

The Smith Recycling-backed team took a 4-3 overtime win in Scotland on Thursday (3 Jan) to claim a vital two points. They sit five points adrift of Manchester Storm and six behind their local rivals the Blaze, but MKL have a good recent record against Danny Stewart’s men. Two days before Christmas the Lightning beat Blaze at the Skydome and in November beat them 4-1 at Planet Ice Milton Keynes.

Coach Wallace - who scored the unassisted winning goal on Thursday in Dundee - said the team is looking forward to being back in their own barn and playing for a loud, partisan home following. “It feels like a month since our last home game,” he told mk-Lightning.co.uk. “We’ll be looking to have a good start to get our fans going.

“Coventry is a team we need to catch to achieve our aim of making the playoffs, and a smart, relentless style of hockey will be key to another win.”

A gruelling festive schedule saw the team play six games in just nine days, just two of those on home ice and the others involving travel as far afield as Belfast.

“We’re looking forward to playing at home on a Saturday night again and hearing the noise we know our fans can make!”

Tickets for Saturday’s home match against the Coventry Blaze will be on sale right through to face off and can be reserved in advance at mk-Lightning.co.uk, by phone at 01908 540020 or in person at the Planet Ice Ticket Office.
