Preview: MK Lightning v Dundee Stars (15 Dec)

Swift revenge will be the aim for Smith Milton Keynes Lightning when they entertain Dundee Stars at Planet Ice on Saturday – the two sides having met in Scotland only last weekend.

Stars ran out 5-2 victors, but only after snatching three goals in the final quarter of an hour following and even opening three quarters of an hour in which there was never more than a goal separating the two outfits.

It is Lightning’s only game of the weekend so they can afford put all their efforts into the one night.

Until recently Dundee were just one place above Lightning in second from bottom spot in the Elite League. However a run of improved results has seen them climb to seventh place, although they slipped to a 3-2 overtime defeat at the hands of Sheffield Steelers on Sunday.

On Tuesday they suffered a 4-2 Challenge Cup quarter final second leg reverse at the hands of Belfast Giants. It’s true to say that they were already effectively eliminated from the competition after being demolished 8-0 in the first leg.

Stars’ top scorer is Lukas Lundvald who joined the club mid-season last year after spending his entire previous career in his native Denmark. He has lit the lamp nine times and added 13 assists for 22 points – ranking him 33rd in the league’s top scorers.

François Bouchard has also scored nine times and is four assists behind Lundvald in second place – 48th in the league table. He didn’t play last campaign and previous to that he had a season in France with Bordeaux.

Calgary born defenceman Drydn Dow is in his first year with Stars and ranks third on the club’s points scorers with six goals and 18 assists.

In between the pipes is Swede Pontus Sjogren is fifth in the league standings with a save percentage of .897. He is in his first year with Dundee having spent the previous two years with HC Vita Hästen in Sweden’s second tier Allvenskan.
