Coaching Update: 1st – 2nd September

The Smith Recycling Milton Keynes Lightning are delighted to confirm that Head Coach Doug McKay is expected to take charge of his first fixture for the team this weekend.

Doug’s arrival in the UK had been delayed by league-wide visa issues.  As a result Lewis Clifford – Head Coach of the NIHL Milton Keynes Thunder – ran the bench for Wednesday’s first pre-season fixture in Coventry.  ‘Cliff’ will continue in that role for one more game – Saturday’s home pre-season Challenge match against Guildford Flames.

It goes without saying that our sincere thanks go to Lewis for agreeing to deputise, and to the MK Thunder organisation for allowing the move to be possible.

Doug McKay is scheduled to arrive in the UK on Sunday (2 September) from his home in Canada, and is expected to go straight into action, taking charge of his team for the first time for the road trip to Guildford.

Coach McKay’s first home game leading his team will be this coming Wednesday when Lightning face the Coventry Blaze, and will be hunting down a win to reverse last week’s narrowest of defeats at the Skydome.

  • Tickets for that match, this Saturday’s against Guildford Flames and next Sunday’s home match against the Sheffield Steelers, are on sale now – buy online at mk-lightning.co.uk/tickets or phone 01908 540020.
