Five MK players in GB U20 roster

The depth of young talent in Milton Keynes’s hockey system has been recognised this week with news that no fewer than five players will represent Great Britain in a friendly game next week.

GB Head Coach Tom Watkins’ U20 side will face Nottingham Lions on Tuesday evening (3 November) at the National Ice Arena.

MK Lightning defenceman Ed Knaggs and forwards Glenn Billing, Lewis Hook and Luc Johnson will be joined by MK Thunder forward Alex Whyte in Nottingham for the fixture. Billing, Johnson, Knaggs and Whyte are on two- way contracts with the NIHL MK Thunder and Lewis Hook is on a two-way contract with EIHL Coventry Blaze.

The event will allow the GB management an opportunity to see the players at close quarters as they prepare to select a roster for the World Junior Championships in France, in December.

MK Lightning Head Coach and Director of Hockey, Pete Russell, congratulated the players chosen, saying “It’s always a great honour to be selected for your country.

“There is no better achievement and I am so happy for Ed, Hooky, Glenn, Luc and Alex. They are all quality people and players. And it’s always great for our club to have so many top young guys in the organisation.”
